This policy explains how PLK Workforce Solutions processes your personal information in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA").
1. Information Officer

  • Identity data: first name, middle name, last name, date of birth
  • Contact data: email address, phone number, physical location
  • Professional data: CV, work experience, education, skills, certifications
  • Account data: username, password (hashed), login history
  • Application data: resumes, cover letters, and application status
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, device information
3. Why We Process Your Information

We process your personal information for the following purposes, each with a lawful basis under section 11 of POPIA:

  • To provide our services — performance of a contract
  • To match candidates with employers — performance of a contract
  • To communicate about your account and applications — legitimate interest
  • To improve our platform — legitimate interest
  • To comply with legal obligations — legal obligation
  • To send marketing communications — consent (opt-in)
4. Who We Share With

We share personal information with:

  • Employers — when you apply for a job, the employer receives your application
  • Operators — hosting, email, and analytics providers bound by written agreements
  • Regulators — when required by law
5. Cross-Border Transfers

Some of our service providers host data outside South Africa. Where this occurs, we ensure adequate protection under section 72 of POPIA through contractual safeguards or your consent.

6. Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described. Account data is retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period after. Application data is retained for 6 months unless you request deletion.

7. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encryption, access controls, and regular security reviews.

8. Your Rights

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Be informed about how we process your information
  • Access the personal information we hold about you (section 23)
  • Request correction or deletion of your information (section 24)
  • Object to processing (section 11(3))
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator
